How Can a CDFA Help During a Divorce?

divorce, forensic accounting, business closure forensic accountingWhat does CDFA even mean? The CDFA after Anthony’s name means  Certified Divorce Financial Analyst. At McCain and Samons we help people with business decisions, planning a new business, financial planning and over the past few years we have been taking on the role is Forensic Accountants.

When couples are getting a divorce, or businesses split up, we serve as a neutral third party. We look at the books, where income comes from, what the expenditures are, and from a financial point of view, help the parties come to a fair and equitable settlement.

Often Divorce attorneys will ask us to look and see if everything is on the up and up. I know this may shock you, but sometimes people hide certain assets they don’t feel they should have to share with a spouse. While on the face of it, this may seem like a good idea, it never is. We have ways to ferrett out assets by creating a paper trail, and no matter how creative a person gets, we almost always manage to unravel their schemes.

If you are thinking of divorcing, or you suspect a partner in your organization is moving funds around, give us a call sooner rather than later. If we can get access to the financials before people have the chance to start moving funds around, then we can do a better job of keeping things on track.
